This Wednesday, October 15th at 11:30 am, the Florida House Civil Justice & Claims Subcommittee will hold the first hearing on House Bill 6003, Representative Dana Trabulsy’s bill to repeal Florida’s “Free Kill” Law — the unjust loophole that denies thousands of families their constitutional right to accountability when a loved one dies due to medical negligence.
This is a critical moment in our fight for justice. We need families and advocates in Tallahassee to speak in favor of HB 6003 and show lawmakers that Floridians will not stop until this law is repealed.
✅ If you are able to attend and speak:
Your presence and voice can make a powerful impact. Every member of this committee who voted on last year’s repeal bill voted in favor of repeal — your testimony helps ensure they stand firm once again. Register to speak here: https://www.flhouse.gov/MeetingAppearanceRequest?meetingid=14842
🗓 Date: Wednesday, October 15
🕚 Time: 11:30 a.m.
📍 Location: House Civil Justice & Claims Subcommittee, House Office Building Room 404 - Sumner Hall, Tallahassee
✅ If you cannot attend in person:
Please call or email the committee members before the hearing and ask them to vote in favor of HB 6003. Hearing from constituents matters — and every message helps. See the committee members and their contact information here: https://www.flhouse.gov/Sections/Committees/committeesdetail.aspx?CommitteeId=3299
This hearing is the first of at least two committee votes the bill must pass in the House before moving to the full House floor. A Senate companion bill has not yet been filed. A strong showing of public support for HB 6003 can encourage Senators to sponsor the Senate version — which is essential for the repeal to advance.
For a bill to become law, both the House bill and the Senate companion must pass through several committees before reaching the final floor votes in each chamber. That process begins here — and your involvement now helps determine its success.
There has also been growing media attention across Florida on this issue and the advocates fighting to end this injustice. If your family has been denied the right to pursue accountability because of the “Free Kill” Law, we encourage you to share your story with your local media outlets. Many Floridians still don’t realize that they, too, may fall under this law or how deeply it undermines safety and accountability in healthcare.
Together, we can make history — but we need your voices, your stories, and your courage.
Thank you for standing up for your fellow Floridians,
The FMRA Team
